Περίληψη Διάλεξης: Transportation systems are undergoing two simultaneous transformations: electrification and automation. However, it remains unclear how these technologies will interact with existing policies, the built environment, and long-term societal goals. Because transportation plays such a pivotal role in society, even small changes in its infrastructure can have large impacts. How these technologies interact with our existing world requires careful investigation to help guide safe policy, mitigate risk, build economic resilience, and ensure environmental sustainability. In this presentation, Dr Hardaway will review how policies and urban form shape the adoption and impacts of autonomous and electric vehicles, and summarize the current state of the art in policy recommendations. Much of this work focuses on the environmental consequences of these technologies, which may be either beneficial or harmful depending on how they are deployed. Among the many possible futures enabled by these innovations, this research seeks to identify the most promising pathways and the policies needed to achieve them. Cyprus has already committed to serving as an autonomous vehicle testbed—how can it start preparing now for the technologies just around the corner?

Βιογραφικό Ομιλητή: Dr Kendrick Hardaway is an Assistant Professor in the College of Engineering at the University of Arkansas. His work focuses on helping decision-makers understand tradeoffs and design solutions within real-world environmental and economic constraints, using environmental modeling to evaluate how emerging technologies can reduce waste, enhance public health and support circular economies.
